Backed by multiple patents and industry awards, LIP-INK® 's liquid lip color is today the superior leader in lip color. Currently available at hundreds of spas, salons, doctors' offices and retail locations worldwide "It's new technology for semipermanent makeup. Other products claim they're smearless, long-lasting and liquid. However, ours is the only original, patented real liquid lip color. We do not even refer to our product as "lipstick" because it is not lipstick; it is the first lip color of its kind and proves what we claim."

Ten years on, Rose Nichols continues to handcraft an extraordinary lip color that, unlike lipstick, offers a time-saving, confidence-building solution for active women. Not only does our lip stain lipstick feel remarkably like bare skin, it is also beneficial to the lips. The revolutionary lip color speeds up natural lip exfoliation of dead skin cells - revealing softer, smoother, younger-looking lips in their natural state.
All of our products are made with no added preservatives, using pigments, 40 natural herbs and botanicals including goldenseal, chamomile, rosemary extract, seaweed, calendula extract, beta carotene, Vitamins E, C, B-5 (panthenol), 13 trace minerals, UVA and UVB protection and natural humectants. All ingredients meet U.S. FDA and CTFA cosmetic standards and guidelines. All our products are made in the U.S.A.

Tired of her old fashioned lip color coming off on her teeth, clothes, coffee cups, and food, Rose knew there had to be a more elegant and natural solution to women's lip color - one that empowered women. In 1991, Rose began exploring the chemistry of the herbs and botanicals in cosmetics, and the mechanics of magic markers in art. She brought the two worlds together creating the first batch of LIP-INK ® LIP COLOR in her own kitchen.

Her goal was to invent an extraordinary lip color, unlike lipstick, that offered a time-saving, confidence-building solution for active women. Finally, in 1995, Rose unveiled her revolutionary product line LIP-INK® Wax Free Semi-Permanent® Cosmetics - a paradigm shift in lip, brow, eye and face color cosmetics

Backed by multiple patents and industry awards, LIP-INK ® Wax Free Semi-Permanent® Makeup is currently available in spas, salons, doctor's offices and retail locations world wide.

Lipstick is a cosmetic product containing pigments, oils, waxes, and emollients that applies color and texture to the lips. There are many varieties of lipstick. "Lippy" is a common British colloquialism for lipstick.[1]

Lipstick is known to have been used around 5000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia, when semi-precious jewels were crushed and applied to the lips and occasionally around the eyes. Women in the ancient Indus Valley Civilization applied lipstick to their lips for face decoration. [2] Ancient Egyptians extracted purplish-red dye from fucus-algin, 0.01% iodine, and some bromine mannite, which resulted in serious illness. Cleopatra had her lipstick made from crushed carmine beetles, which gave a deep red pigment, and ants for a base. Lipsticks with shimmering effects were initially made using a substance found in fish scales called pearlescence.[3]

Lipstick started to gain popularity in the 16th century, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, who made piercing black lips and bright yellow faces a fashion statement. By that time, lipstick was made from a blend of beeswax and red stains from plants. During the Second World War, lipstick gained popularity as a result of its use in the movie industry, and it became commonplace for women to apply makeup, or "put their face on".

As with most other types of makeup, lipstick is typically, but not exclusively, worn by women. It is usually not worn until a female reaches adolescence or adulthood. Male lipstick, especially as used in theater, is sometimes called manstick.

Another form of lip color, a wax-free semi-permanent liquid formula, was invented in the 1990s by the LIP-INK® International company. Other companies imitated the idea, putting out their own versions of long-lasting "lip stain lipstick" or "liquid lip color", but were not allowed to infringe on the patented wax-free formula.

A study by US consumer group Campaign For Safe Cosmetics, in October 2007 found 60 percent of lipsticks tested contained traceable amounts of lead.[4] The levels of lead varied from 0.03 to 0.65 parts per million. One third of the lipsticks containing lead exceeded the 0.1ppm limit set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for lead in candy. [5]
